TIP OF THE MONTH: How to Improve Employee Health

Studies show that the workplace is one of the leading causes of obesity in the United States.1

In a report published in the New York Times,2 jobs that required moderate physical activity have dipped to 20% vs. 50% in the 1960s. The remaining 80% of jobs are sedentary, or require only light activity.

Here are a few important tips to encourage good habits at work and help maintain the healthy lifestyle of your employees:

1. Implement a Corporate Wellness Program
One of the best ways to motivate your employees to get active and start practicing daily exercise is through a corporate-sponsored health program.

2. Encourage Healthy Habits
Set up water coolers to encourage your employees to keep hydrated. Encourage employees to get outside during their breaks and enjoy the fresh air. It will help them to feel rejuvenated when they get back to work.

3. Practice What You Preach
It is very important for employer’s to practice good habits at work that encourage their fellow employees to do the same. Bring a plant to work for your desk. Get in the habit of bringing in a healthy, nutritious lunch. Promote company-sponsored fitness programs that encourage teamwork and camaraderie
