TIP OF THE MONTH: Workers’ Compensation Audit Preparation Checklist

How can you minimize the impact of your next workers’ compensation carrier audit?
Try these three steps:

1.
Have all necessary documents readily accessible.
2.
Designate a main contact person who knows your business operations well.
3.
Understand the process and don’t feel singled out.

Though audits are a provision in your policy and a contractual obligation for every business that is covered by workers’ compensation insurance, they don’t have to be disruptive to your operations.

Keep in mind that if the auditor is unable to reach you, your carrier will automatically estimate your payroll, which can result in additional costs, or they can choose to cancel your current policy. By working closely with the auditor, you can help your workers’ compensation premiums remain as accurate as possible.
