Safety for Seasonal Employees

From recreation to retail, many industries and businesses depend on holiday or seasonal workers to help them get through peak periods during the year. Whether they’re stocking shelves during holidays or overseeing the pool as a lifeguard, it is important for short-term employees to follow established safety guidelines and do their part to recognize and help eliminate workplace injuries. Many of the laws and regulations that apply to full-time employees also apply to seasonal or part-time employees.

Help your seasonal workers stay safe by ensuring they are fully informed of safety protocols and expectations.

According to OSHA, certain types of businesses tend to draw more seasonal or temporary help:

  • Restaurants
  • Parks & recreation
  • Landscaping
  • Lifeguarding
  • Farms

Just like permanent staff, seasonal hires must have the proper safeguards needed to reduce the risk of workplace injuries during their tenure with the company. Providing training and stressing preventive measures such as correct lifting, posture and proper use of equipment will show seasonal or temporary employees that you’re serious about safety.
